Victorian policy

Environment and Practical Conservation

  • Review Victorian timber and forestry restrictions using published evidence on conservation, sustainable harvesting, regional employment and industry viability.
  • Support community-led conservation and wildfire mitigation.
  • Oppose carbon taxes and market-distorting subsidies.
  • Protect productive agricultural land from speculative rezoning.
  • Reform water markets to prioritise local and environmental needs.
  • Restore genuine landcare and habitat protection programs based on practical outcomes.
  • Launch Conservation First – A Real Environmental Strategy focused on restoring rivers, bushland, biodiversity and practical land-management outcomes.
  • Review and, where justified, repeal specific gas and forestry restrictions or subsidies that harm affordable energy, sustainable industry or energy security, while preserving environmental safeguards.
  • Support genuine carbon sequestration through tree planting, water protection, and land management.
  • Partner with farmers, not punish them—respect local expertise in managing natural resources.
  • Repeal excessive planning overlays that prevent families from managing fire risk or clearing invasive species.
  • Fund a long-term coordinated program for invasive weeds and feral pests, with local Landcare groups, councils, landholders and Traditional Owner ranger groups.
  • Propose a shared federal–state conservation fund of $500 million for practical pest, weed and habitat projects.
  • Expand fuel-reduction and bushfire-preparedness work in designated high-risk areas in cooperation with fire agencies and landowners.
  • Rehabilitate degraded rivers, wetlands and catchments; strengthen responses to unlawful dumping and harmful discharges.
  • Audit the active management needs of Victorian national and state parks, including invasive species, track maintenance and conservation access.
  • Strengthen tree protection in suitable subdivisions, including a proposed 30% tree-canopy target.
  • Improve conservation education, vocational land-management training and recycling and waste enforcement.
