Victorian Policy

Energy Security and Strategic Assets

  • Prioritise Australian ownership of critical infrastructure (energy, water, ports).
  • Examine nuclear electricity generation alongside renewables and gas, including the changes needed to Victorian and Commonwealth law and independent safety, cost, siting and feasibility assessments.
  • Protect consumer choice between lawful home heating and cooking energy sources, including review of restrictions on residential gas connections.
  • Consider new domestic gas supply and development within Victorian legislative powers, subject to relevant approvals and safeguards.
  • Review major transmission routes and new energy projects for grid cost, productive-land impacts and environmental requirements.
  • Support dispatchable generation and grid reliability while allowing complementary energy sources, including rooftop solar and batteries, where economically and technically suitable.
  • Advocate a domestic gas reservation arrangement with the Commonwealth where the resource or export powers are federal.
